The Apothecary Diaries was recommended to me by a dear friend for a long time. Last year at the Japan expo Paris, I saw a huge booth about it, igniting my curiosity. After a long time, I finally had the opportunity to watch it with a family member who loves history. We watched through the first season in a few evening, and then continued on this second season.

The world-building continues and includes a lot more characters. Answers come slowly, even if only more questions arise. In the first part of the season, one of the main plot point is the evolution of the relationship between Mao Mao and Jinshi. The animation is clean, the episode pacing feels like every single one is meaningful but not too rushed. Overall, even if you’re not especially interested in the premise, it’s always a good watch. As expected after the first season, the opening and ending songs are still really good and even allowed me to learn more about a couple artists!
